HANDAR4.GIF (182 Byte)  DaimlerChrysler revenues  in 1998 up by 13%
DaimlerChrysler is expected to start its first business year with strong increases in revenues, sales and earning figures. Group revenues were up by 13% to approximately $148 / DM 260 billion, compared to the pro forma combined figures for the former Daimler-Benz and Chrysler operations (1997 revenues of $127.1 / DM 229.3 billion).

According to first preliminary figures, unit sales in the automotive business of the DaimlerChrysler group will reach a total of approximately 4.4 million.

HANDAR4.GIF (182 Byte)  Volkswagen is Going to Build a Transparent Factory in Dresden
Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg. 

Dec. 20, 98.  Volkswagen announced, that it will build a transparent factory for crafted luxury cars in Dresden. The final decission depends on the support of the European Community.

About 150 cars should be produced per day in a factory in the middle of the town.

Ford and Peugeot Joint For Common Engine Factory

- Paris, September 1998.- PSA Peugeot Citroën Chairman Jean-Martin Folz and Ford Automotive Operations President Jacques Nasser announced their intention to team up for the development of a new line of compact diesel engines.

The two carmakers will pool their resources to develop a family of light diesel engines incorporating the latest technologies, including common rail direct fuel injection. The teams responsible for carrying out the two and a half year project will be based at the PSA Peugeot Citroën research center in la Garenne-Colombes, near Paris. The new powerplants will be manufactured at the Douvrin plant and will replace the TUD range of engines currently equipping the Peugeot 106 and the Citroën Saxo.

The total cost of the project estimated at FRF 2 billion will be shared between PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford.

HANDAR4.GIF.gif (182 Byte)  DaimlerChrysler Appoints Gary Henson and Richard Schaum to Key Manufacturing Positions
Auburn Hills, Mich. --December 1998. DaimlerChrysler announced today the appointment of Gary L. Henson to the position of Senior Vice President - Manufacturing, effective January 1, 1999. Henson will be responsible for all assembly, stamping and component manufacturing for all Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth branded products worldwide.

It was also announced that Richard O. Schaum has been appointed Senior Vice President - Quality and Power Train Operations, for all Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth products worldwide. Both Henson and Schaum will report to DaimlerChrysler Corporation President Thomas T. Stallkamp.

2000 NEON WORLD DEBUT LOS ANGELES

 

- Dec. 29, 1998 - DaimlerChrysler used a "Times Square" setting at Paramount Studios to unveil the all-new 2000 Neon to media at the LA Auto Show today.   Sold under the Dodge and Plymouth brands, the 2000 Neon boasts an all-new exterior and interior, along with substantially improved ride and handling. Dealer shipments of the 2000 Neon begin next week with a starting price of $12,890, including a $500 destination fee.
